Description

The Montefalco Sagrantino Passito DOCG by La Veneranda is a natural sweet wine from 100% Sagrantino grapes obtained through drying, broad and structured, with long aromatic persistence, enveloping sweetness, and a typical tannic finish that keeps it balanced and never cloying.

Area and grape

It comes from the Montefalco area in Umbria and is produced exclusively with Sagrantino grapes, an indigenous variety renowned for its rich polyphenols and marked tannins even in the passito version.

Drying and vinification

The grapes are carefully dried to concentrate sugars and aromas, then macerated on the skins for at least 10 days in stainless steel at 26–28 °C, combining aromatic intensity with refined extraction.

Aging

It is followed by a long aging of 36 months in tonneaux or small oak barrels and a further rest of about 4 months in bottle to integrate tannin and sweetness and expand the bouquet.

Color and aroma

In the glass it is intense ruby with garnet hues; on the nose emerge black cherry, cherry and wild berries, with sweet spices such as vanilla and anise, along with notes of ripe fruit and dried plum.

Taste

Sweet yet composed, velvety and savory, with fine tannins that support the sip and a very long finish; the result is a natural balance between softness, freshness and structure.

Pairings

Perfect with almond-based dry pastries, dark chocolate and aged or blue cheeses; also excellent as a meditation wine at the end of a meal.

Service

Serve at 18–20 °C; a brief oxygenation in the glass or a small decanter helps relax the tannins and amplify the aromas.

Indicative data

Alcohol content around 15% ABV; excellent aging capacity, with further positive development in bottle over the years.
