Description
Montefalco Grechetto white wine DOC
Montefalco Grechetto is a DOC white wine from Umbria made from 100% Grechetto, showing an intense straw‑yellow color and a fresh, fruity, savory profile, ideal with seafood appetizers, fish, first courses, and fresh cheeses. On the nose it offers notes of yellow peach, citrus, broom blossoms, with hints of almond and hay; on the palate it is balanced, well‑structured, with freshness and sapidity in harmony and a persistent finish.
Character and aromas
- Straw‑yellow color, sometimes with golden highlights, and a bouquet recalling peach, citrus, broom, elderflower and almond, with possible elegant herbal nuances.
- On the palate it is dry, full and smooth, with a pleasant interplay of freshness and sapidity, good roundness and a medium‑to‑robust body.
Grape and area
- Made with 100% Grechetto in the Montefalco area, a typical expression of Umbria’s denominated white‑wine tradition.
- The vineyards lie in the hilly Montefalco zone, often on clay‑sandy soils with sunny exposures that favor aromatic ripeness.
Vinification and aging
- Soft pressing, cold clarification and stainless‑steel fermentation at controlled temperature to preserve freshness and fragrance.
- Aging mainly in stainless steel with a short time in bottle; some interpretations include a small proportion in wood for extra complexity.
Recommended pairings
- Perfect with seafood appetizers, baked or roasted fish, first courses including truffle dishes, cured meats and fresh cheeses, legume soups and savory pies.
- Its freshness and sapidity enhance light, springtime dishes while maintaining balance with richer flavors thanks to its solid structure.
Serving and cellaring
- Serve at 10–14 °C to highlight aromas and palate tension; the exact temperature depends on the producer’s style.
- Best enjoyed young; optimal drinking window is 2–4 years from harvest, depending on vintage and interpretation.
